Sexualisation, Nuisance and Safety: Sexual Entertainment Venues and Managing Risk
Hubbard, P. and Colosi, R.
Funded by the ESRC: £117,000
To date, there has been no academic research on the impacts of lap-dancing clubs (also known as SEVs (Sexual Entertainment Venues)) on the communities in which they are located. In considering the impacts of SEVs on local communities, the purpose of this research was therefore to explore how local authorities can best achieve the aims of licensing – i.e. maximizing public safety, minimizing public nuisance, and reducing crime and disorder in relation to SEVs. More widely, the aim was to explore whether SEVs have a place in England and Wales.
