Striking Women: South Asian Workers’ Struggles in the UK Labour Market – from Grunwick to Gate Gourmet Anitha, S. and Pearson, R. Funded by AHRC, £64,499.57. This project follows on from a previous AHRC-funded research “Subverting stereotypes: Asian women’s political activism – a comparison of the Grunwick and Gate Gourmet strike” (2007-2009). It extends the reach and impact of the previous research. This collaborative follow-on project seeks to engage South Asian women’s groups in the UK to celebrate South Asian women workers’ contributions to British history and politics. Central to this project is the production of the following resources for non-academic audiences – a mobile exhibition, an interactive website for children, a learning resource for teachers, an illustrated book for children telling the story of the women involved and by participating in community events. The exhibition was launched at Ealing Library, Brent, London in 2011, the site of the historic Grunwick strike that features in the exhibition. It has since then been on show across the UK with further dates to be announced.
